We were first organized as a hobby interest club in January 1961 by a small group of lapidary enthusiasts. In August of 1996 we became a non-profit, educational, public benefit corporation in California registered as a 501(c)(3) entity with the IRS.

Our organization consists of elected officers, a board of directors and the group membership. We are a family oriented group with activities that include school-age youngsters, teens and adults. Our "Little Chippers" are the youth program participants. We follow the American Federation of Mineral Societies' sponsored program "Future Rockhounds of America".

We are a member of the California Federation of Mineralogical Societies and affiliated with the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies. We are members of the Canoga Park/West Hills Chambers of Commerce
